Route and stops

Around 380 km through South Iceland, in a private Volkswagen Caravelle seating up to 8. These are the classic stops, in the order the road reaches them; your group can change them.

1. 1

   Seljalandsfoss

   A 60-metre waterfall with a path that runs behind the curtain of water, one of very few in Iceland where you can do that. Expect to get wet.

2. 2

   Skógafoss

   Twenty-five metres wide and 60 metres tall, one of the largest waterfalls in the country. A staircase climbs to a viewing platform at the top.

   Reynisfjara black-sand beach

   Basalt columns, sea caves and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks just offshore. The Atlantic swell here produces sudden “sneaker waves”, so stay well back from the water line.

   Vík í Mýrdal

   Iceland’s southernmost village and the turnaround point for the day. The church on the hill above the town is the classic photo.

One price for the whole vehicle, set by group size: 147,000 kr. for up to 4 passengers, 191,000 kr. for 5–8. Split across your group, it works out like this:

Good to know

• Around 380 km return along Route 1, the longest day on offer, so it starts early.
• In December and January there are only four to five hours of usable daylight; the day is planned around them.
• The road passes the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers; on a clear day both are visible from the vehicle.

How long is the South Coast Tour?

12 hours door to door, covering around 380 km. That includes pickup from your accommodation and the return.

Where does the tour start?

Pickup is from Reykjavík (hotels / selected pickup points). Choose your date and time at checkout and add your address in the booking notes.

Is this a taxi tour?

Yes. Iceland Shuttles is a licensed taxi company, so this is a private taxi tour: your group only, in your own Volkswagen Caravelle with your own driver, from pickup to drop-off.

Is there an entry fee at the stops?

Skógafoss, Reynisfjara black-sand beach and Vík í Mýrdal are free to visit. Seljalandsfoss: free to walk; the car park charges a fee. Any admission along the way is paid by you, and we can book tickets for you on request.

Can you book entry tickets for us?

Yes. Admission is paid by you, but we can book it on request, for example for Skógar Museum and Lava Centre, Hvolsvöllur. Mention it in the booking notes or message us before the day.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle, set by group size: 147,000 kr. for up to 4 passengers, 191,000 kr. for 5–8. The price covers the whole Volkswagen Caravelle, so the cost per person falls as your group grows.

Can we change the route or add a stop?

Yes, as much as you like. It is your own vehicle and driver, so you choose the stops and the order: keep the classic route, add stops or skip some. Tell us in the booking notes or message us before the day.

What should I bring?

Layers, a waterproof jacket and shoes with grip. Icelandic weather changes within the hour, and several stops involve spray or uneven ground. Bring a phone or camera with a full battery; the vehicle has charging.

Do you have child seats?

Yes. Child seats are available for the vehicle. Enter the number of children when you book and add their ages in the pickup details, so the right seats are fitted before we collect you.

Can I cancel or change the booking?

Cancellations are accepted up to 48 hours before the scheduled service, as set out in our cancellation policy; a booking cannot be cancelled inside that window. To move a date or time, contact us as early as you can and we will do our best to accommodate it.
