Route and stops

Around 230 km through Southwest Iceland, in a private Volkswagen Caravelle seating up to 8. These are the classic stops, in the order the road reaches them; your group can change them.

   Þingvellir National Park

   A UNESCO World Heritage site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart, leaving a rift valley you can walk through. It is also where Iceland’s parliament, the Alþingi, was founded in 930.

   Geysir geothermal area

   The hot-spring field that gave every geyser its name. The Great Geysir itself is mostly dormant; its neighbour Strokkur erupts every few minutes, throwing water 15–20 metres into the air.

   Gullfoss waterfall

   The Hvítá river drops 32 metres in two stages into a narrow canyon. On a sunny day the spray throws rainbows across the gorge; in winter the edges freeze into ice sculptures.

Good to know

• The full loop is around 230 km on paved roads that are kept open year-round, which makes this the most reliable day tour in winter.
• None of the three main stops charges admission. Þingvellir has a paid car park; the sites themselves are free to walk.
• The day is yours to shape: add Kerið, a hot spring or lunch at Friðheimar, or spend longer where you like. See the add-on stops below.

How long is the Golden Circle Tour?

6 hours door to door, covering around 230 km. That includes pickup from your accommodation and the return.

Where does the tour start?

Pickup is from Reykjavík (hotels / selected pickup points). Choose your date and time at checkout and add your address in the booking notes.

Is this a taxi tour?

Yes. Iceland Shuttles is a licensed taxi company, so this is a private taxi tour: your group only, in your own Volkswagen Caravelle with your own driver, from pickup to drop-off.

Is there an entry fee at the stops?

Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall are free to visit. Þingvellir National Park: free to walk; the car park charges a fee. Any admission along the way is paid by you, and we can book tickets for you on request.

Can you book entry tickets for us?

Yes. Admission is paid by you, but we can book it on request, for example for Kerið crater and Secret Lagoon, Flúðir. Mention it in the booking notes or message us before the day.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle, set by group size: 104,000 kr. for up to 4 passengers, 135,000 kr. for 5–8. The price covers the whole Volkswagen Caravelle, so the cost per person falls as your group grows.

Can we change the route or add a stop?

Yes, as much as you like. It is your own vehicle and driver, so you choose the stops and the order: keep the classic route, add stops or skip some. Tell us in the booking notes or message us before the day.

What should I bring?

Layers, a waterproof jacket and shoes with grip. Icelandic weather changes within the hour, and several stops involve spray or uneven ground. Bring a phone or camera with a full battery; the vehicle has charging.

Do you have child seats?

Yes. Child seats are available for the vehicle. Enter the number of children when you book and add their ages in the pickup details, so the right seats are fitted before we collect you.

Can I cancel or change the booking?

Cancellations are accepted up to 48 hours before the scheduled service, as set out in our cancellation policy; a booking cannot be cancelled inside that window. To move a date or time, contact us as early as you can and we will do our best to accommodate it.
