Frequently asked questions

Everything travellers ask us before booking an airport transfer, a Blue Lagoon transfer or a day tour, in one place. If your question is not here, ask us directly.

Booking and pricing

Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. Every price covers the whole Volkswagen Caravelle and your luggage, with one price for smaller groups and a higher one for larger groups of up to 8; each route and tour page shows both. Scheduled airport buses charge per seat, so a private vehicle is often cheaper per head for three or more people.
How do I book?
Choose a transfer or tour, pick your date and time, and complete checkout online. You will be asked for your name, contact details, the number of adults and children, and pickup details. Booking online confirms your slot straight away, and payment is taken by card when you book.
Can I book by email or WhatsApp instead?
Yes. Send your travel date, pickup location, flight number and passenger numbers to bookings@icelandshuttles.com or WhatsApp +354 780 0884, and we will reply to arrange it. Online booking is quicker because it confirms instantly.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes for a private transfer. The driver is assigned to your flight and tracks it before you land, so it cannot be arranged on arrival. Book as soon as your flight is confirmed.
Are there any hidden charges?
No. The price shown is a fixed price for the vehicle and does not change with traffic, time of day, or a delayed flight. The only extras are things you choose to add.
Can I cancel or change a booking?
Cancellations are accepted up to 48 hours before the scheduled service, as set out in our cancellation policy; a booking cannot be cancelled inside that window. To move a date or time, contact us as early as you can and we will do our best to accommodate it.

Airport pickup at Keflavík

Where does the driver meet me?
Inside the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name. There is no rank to find and no separate pickup point to walk to. Clear passport control and collect your bags at your own pace. Your driver is already there.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight in real time and move the pickup to your actual landing time. Waiting time is included, so a delayed arrival, a slow passport queue or a late bag does not cost extra and does not need a phone call.
Why do you ask for my flight number?
This will allow us to be on time for your arrival. Without it we can only work from the time you enter at booking. Add it in the pickup details at checkout.
How long is the drive from Keflavík Airport to Reykjavík?
About 50 minutes, covering roughly 50 km on Route 41. Allow longer in winter weather or at the morning rush into the city.
Do you do late-night and early-morning pickups?
Yes. Airport transfers run at any hour to match flight schedules. A 01:00 arrival or a 05:00 departure is normal for us, at the same fixed price.
Do you also drive to the airport for departures?
Yes. For a departure we collect you from your accommodation and drive you to the terminal. Aim to be at Keflavík 2½ hours before an international flight.

Passengers, children and the vehicle

What vehicle will I be in?
A Volkswagen Caravelle, a modern eight-seat passenger van. It takes 8 large suitcases plus 8 carry-ons and some backpacks. It is a private vehicle: only your party travels in it.
How many people can travel?
Up to 8 passengers per vehicle. Enter the number of adults and children at booking so we can plan seating and luggage.
Do you have child seats?
Yes. Child seats are available for the vehicle. Enter the number of children when you book and add their ages in the pickup details, so the right seats are fitted before we collect you.
Can I be picked up from my hotel or an address?
Yes. Transfers and tours collect you from hotels, guesthouses and private addresses across Reykjavík and the Capital Region. Add the address in the pickup details; if it is on a street where a vehicle cannot stop, we will confirm the nearest point with you before the day.

Blue Lagoon transfers

Is Blue Lagoon admission included?
No. Our Blue Lagoon products are transport only. Book your entry separately at bluelagoon.com. Entry is by timed slot, so book the lagoon first, then choose a transfer time that gets you there around 20 minutes before it.
How far is the Blue Lagoon from the airport and from Reykjavík?
About 24 km from Keflavík Airport, roughly 25 minutes. About 49 km from Reykjavík, around 50 minutes. It is closer to the airport than the city is, which is why many travellers visit on arrival or departure day.
Can I go to the Blue Lagoon straight from the airport and then on to Reykjavík?
Yes, and it is the most efficient way to fit it in. The airport round trip can return you to a Reykjavík hotel instead of the airport; every option is on our Blue Lagoon transfer page at icelandshuttles.com/airport/blue-lagoon-transfer.
How long do we get at the lagoon on a round trip?
Round trips are scheduled as 4 hours door to door. The drive is the rest: from the airport that leaves roughly 3 hours at the lagoon, from Reykjavík roughly 2 hours. Tell your driver if you have booked a longer package and we will plan the return around it.

Day tours

Are the tours private or in a group?
Private. Every tour runs in your own vehicle with your own driver, so the day is paced to your group. You stop where you want and stay as long as the light is good.
Where do tours start?
Pickup is from your accommodation in Reykjavík or the surrounding Capital Region. Choose your date and time at checkout and add the address in the pickup details.
Is there an entry fee at the stops?
No. The main stops are free to visit: Þingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara and Hallgrímskirkja. A few car parks along the routes charge a fee.
Which tour should I choose?
The Golden Circle is the classic first-visit loop on paved roads open year-round. The South Coast is the longest day, taking in waterfalls, black sand and glaciers, and starts early in winter to use the daylight. Reykjavík Sightseeing is two hours in the city, short enough for a layover or a cruise call.
What should I bring?
Layers, a waterproof jacket and shoes with grip. Icelandic weather changes within the hour, and several stops involve spray or uneven ground. Bring a phone or camera with a full battery; the vehicle has charging.
